This free annual event is a combination of symposia, hands-on classes and open access to a wide variety of microscopes. During afternoon seminars, academic investigators present inspirational research employing emerging and traditional microscopy. The wet-bench classes are linked to the symposia with a thematic technique or application. It is open to the broader regional research community and only requires your registration.

This year's symposia and class theme is "Imaging Development". A short lecture and hands-on practical "micro-course" will be offered on time resolved imaging and cell tracking with fluorescent Drosophila embryos using either two-photon laser scanning microscopes or confocal microscopes from any major vendor. (Click here for a description of this class). Whether you are an expert or an absolute beginner, please feel free to come for advice or to try out a microscope even if you are not attending a class or a seminar.

In order to eliminate the financial barriers and time commitments that often prevent individuals from taking extended microscopy courses, direct access to instruments and expertise is provided free of charge. Interested individuals can use this opportunity to determine whether particular techniques suit their future needs or to get needed advice from vendor representatives. This is also an unparalleled chance to compare microscopes from many vendors, which is especially convenient for those contemplating a purchase or preparing a shared instrument grant.

In addition to a variety of confocal and widefield microscopes from all major vendors, two-photon LSMs will also be available for use both during classes and at all other times. Registered Workshop participants can make one to two hour reservations for many of the instruments using the link provided on this website. At least one microscope per room will be available for use on a walk-in basis. Slides and live cell samples will be available for use but feel free to bring your own samples.

You would be hard-pressed to see and experience so many instruments in a single setting with the kinds of specimens that are the most meaningful to you. Please note that access to the fully-functional instruments does not require participation in the classes or symposium, but does require your free registration.

This free event is made possible through the generous support of numerous companies and the office of the YSOM Deputy Dean of Science. Support is also provided by the Yale Rheumatology Disease Research Center P30 in order to advance two-photon laser scanning microscopy and its application to in vivo imaging throughout the regional North East.
