Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this open to the general public?

Yes. This event is designed to provide an open forum for emerging technology and methodology. Involvement of the research community within the broader regional area is not only desirable but encouraged.

What makes this workshop different from others?

It is a great opportunity to engage informed instrument operators and explore new microscopy approaches to your biological questions. This event strives to provide direct access to fully functional instruments and expertise at no cost and without any major time committments. In this way, interested individuals can more easily explore new microscopy approaches to determine whether particular instruments or techniques suit their future needs. Additionally, vendor operators are available to offer advice on ongoing research projects and are more than willing to explore your personal samples with you. You would be hard-pressed to see and experience so many instruments in a single setting with the kinds of specimens that are the most meaningful to you.

Where and when is this taking place?

When: June 9th-11th , 2009.

Where : TAC building
300 Cedar Street
(corner of Cedar and Congress Ave)
New Haven CT

The afternoon symposia will take place in the TAC building auditorium (N107). The microscopy equipment will be available for use in a series of contiguous rooms on the 2nd floor directly above the auditorium (N221-N231).

Is registration required? Is there an entrance fee?

There are no charges associated with this event. Registration is not required for the seminars, but free registration is required to enter the rooms where the microscopes are held. Although we encourage registration online, interested individuals can also register on site in the lobby or 2nd floor landing of the TAC building each day. Applicants will then receive a username and password that will enable them to reserve specific pieces of equipment via ScheduleBook.com.

Can I really bring my own samples?

Yes. Absolutely. In fact this is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED! Where else can you see your samples on so many different instruments in the same day?! You can bring fixed or living specimens, but these must be limited to BLS1 samples. BLS2 samples are not permitted. If you need a sample dish to be held at 37 C, 5% CO2 in a nearby lab please write to one of the organizers. Please note that there will not be an incubator in the rooms housing the microscopes.
