Welcome to the Yale Microscopy Workshop!

June 10th -12st 2008

Yale School of Medicine
TAC building auditorium and 2nd floor student teaching labs
300 Cedar St
New Haven, CT

In order eliminate the financial barriers and time commitments that often prevent individuals from taking extended microscopy courses, this event strives to provide direct access to instruments and expertise without cost. In this way, interested individuals can more easily determine whether particular techniques suit their future needs or simply get needed advice from vendor representatives.

The event is open to the broader regional research community and only requires your free registration. Presentations by academic speakers will be held in morning symposiums. Two short lectures and hands-on practical “micro-courses” on FRET and another on optical sectioning for 3D rendering will be offered this year as well. Both confocal and two-photon LSMs will be employed for these classes. Slides and live cell samples will be available for use but feel free to bring your own samples. (Please note that the hands-on practicals offered on June 10th and 11th are now full. Space is still available for both lectures however. We will be offering another hands-on practical on June 12th, but this will be limited to Yale personnel. Please see the schedule for details.)

In addition to a variety of confocal and widefield microscopes from all major vendors, two-photon LSMs will also be available for use this year both during classes and at all other times. One to two hour reservations can be made for many of the instruments after registration. At least one microscope per room will be available for use on a walk-in basis. You would be hard-pressed to see and experience so many instruments in a single setting with the kinds of specimens that are the most meaningful to you. Please note that access to the fully-functional instruments does not require participation in the classes or symposium, but does require registration.
